It is one of the most popular and effective tactics for generating website traffic and doing SEO at the same time. This tactic is guest posting or guest blogging, which is commonly used to promote websites, even sites that don’t have their own blogs.
Guest posting on other blogs is a topic of great controversy right now. For many years, guest posting on popular blogs has been a good way to get traffic to a website as well as get high quality links that help with SEO.
Guest posting was used heavily by top bloggers, but was also a good way for just about any business to get some exposure to their target audience. However, now that Google is cracking down on “spammy guest posting”, many website owners are confused about the rules and guidelines for guest posting and even whether or not they should do it.

There are so many allegations around guest posting , its time to play cat (google) and mouse (guest posting / blogging) game well.
With such recent changes through G updates there is one clear message to advertisers .
Stop link building and start using Adwords .

Guest blogging will continue to live on. I wouldn’t fully rely on guest blogging as the only means of online marketing. Those who do will look obvious and get penalized.
Yes, Matt Cutts mentioned that not all guest blogging is bad. Just spammy guest blogging for links. I don’t think most people will get penalized as long as they follow Google’s guidelines.

Nothing changed for me regarding Guest Posting. I kept everything the same as I fight for backlinks and traffic on every other valuable site in my niche. Only there is a lot less competition now which is awesome by the way. Matt scared lot of people saying: ”Guest Blogging is dead”.

I don’t think Guest Blogging is dead, at least not it’s in traditional form.
I think sites/networks built specifically for guest posting are closing in on being dead but reaching out to site owners in your niche (Who are not advertising for guest posts) and offering to make a post for them will always be a valuable approach and I can’t see how that will change any time soon.

Agreed William. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with stating that you accept guest posts on your site, as long as the publisher has some quality standards.

Hi Pavitra. Any of those can work fine… just be sure to create content that is useful for the audience of that blog and follows their guidelines. You can usually just email the editor if you want to make changes.
