Guest posting is a great way to build your following and brand recognition, particularly if you are just starting out. Some people have gotten hundreds of email subscribers from guest posting and a link from an authority site can also help your site get more search engine traffic. However, one of the biggest challenges for getting featured on a high traffic blog is finding good guest post ideas.
So how do you find guest post ideas that you can pitch to high quality authority blogs? Here are a few ideas.
1. Go to their site and look at what content is currently popular.
Analyzing a website and finding out what topics are already popular with their audience is a good place to start. If you write something that falls within those interests, then your likelihood of getting accepted increases.
2. Pay attention to what is missing from their content
Sometimes a good approach is to understand what the target blog’s audience is interested in, and write content that “fills in the gaps”. In other words, figure out what they haven’t written about yet that might be beneficial to their audience.
3. Keep up with the latest news
Commenting on the latest news is one way to create a unique guest post. Although a lot of people like evergreen content, most blogs need to keep up with and respond to news in their niche. Creating a post based on the latest news can be an easy way to create a guest post that hasn’t been written before and is relevant.
4. Look at what other guest posters wrote about
Pay attention to what other successful guest posters wrote about on the target blog. Notice what topic they chose and their writing style. How do they format the post? Do they use images?
After you look at a few guest posts, you might start to get a good feel for what type of content the blog likes to get from guest posters.
5. Check out other blogs in your niche
Visit other high quality blogs in your niche and pay attention to what is popular on those blogs. If you look around enough, you might be able to find a topic or a perspective that hasn’t been covered yet and might make a good article on the blog you want to guest post on.
6. Ask the blog owner
If the blog owner isn’t super busy, sometimes you can ask them what they want you to write about, especially if you have expertise in a certain area. Most blog owners will allow you to think of a topic first and then show it to them before you write the article. Come up with a short list of good topics and see if they are interested in any of them.
Finally, don’t forget to read the guest posting guidelines, as often they will tell you what they are looking for. A lot of sites have guest post guidelines so be sure to follow them.
