Why I Started this Blog

I wanted to write this post to explain why I started this blog and what I hope to accomplish. I’m going to start by explaining my background because that will help people understand my motivations and journey. Hopefully, it will help you find your motivation as well.

My History

Even when I was in school, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. During the summers and holidays, when I was on vacation, I would read and purchase info products to learn about business so that I could one day start my own company.

A lot of the stuff I read wasn’t very helpful, but I picked up bits and pieces along the way. After I graduated, I worked for a little over a year and then got laid off.

At first, I started looking for a new job, being that I was inexperienced in the work world. But while I was getting unemployment, I realized that now was my best opportunity to start my own business. After all, I had the unemployment check coming in and some money saved up. And if I failed, then I could always look for a job then.

I started by selling some stuff on Ebay and after a positive experience, purchased some fragrance oils and started selling those. I sold my first item on August 1, 2002. I did that for two years and became a gold level power seller.

After awhile, I learned about SEO and decided to start my own Yahoo store website selling baby shower party supplies online. I also set up some content based websites and made money with Google Adsense.

In 2008, I got into automation, hiring, and outsourcing. I also started a few projects, which I have put on hold for now. My latest business project is launching Web Developers Etc to help other people with their website and marketing needs.

Benefits

Although it can be scary sometimes, there are plenty of benefits to owning your own business. First of all, it is far more rewarding to work on things that will help yourself. You learn a lot as you go along and you have more control over your own schedule. I’ve been able to travel and live in other cities by taking my laptop with me. And if you are successful in business, then most likely, you are doing something to help fulfill people’s needs on some level.

Motivations

One of the best experiences was being able to help my friends automate their brick and mortal business by advising them on hiring and helping with web marketing stuff. I’m hoping that this blog will be able to help other people get started or achieve their goals in business and in life. I have more ideas than I will ever execute and there is a lot of information that I’ve learned on my own.

Blogging and newsletters is something I’ve learned a good deal about, but haven’t experimented with much. Hopefully, I will also have the opportunity to connect with other successful people and learn more as I go along. Eventually, I want to create something more interactive as well and build a community. Looking forward to sharing my ideas with other people.
